Ayee been a while, sorry

Heeey guys, long time no type. Hope you've all been well life got the better of me and I haven't been able to post regularly (as always) but I promise I'm going to try harder this year. It's a promise to myself, not really a 'resolution' but just an aim- I guess it is a resolution ha! I was gifted a diary for my 20th birthday last year (my god, can you believe I'm 20) and since I received it I've just been noting small nothings down and plans for the week/ day. It's really kept me organised which I've always aimed to strive for.

Plus it's really cool having a small black book with you everywhere you go (regardless) I hope I can maintain the amount of effort I have been putting towards it since the year started. The red book on it's left is my sketchbook which counts towards my grade for my first semester- speaking of semester since the last post I wrote I informed you all that I had started my first semester at University well in about a week I will be starting my second. Which I am very much so thrilled about, to end this semester I'll be exhibiting some of my work which I had to create for this said unit, it's aim:

"Identity"

In the most simplest of terms, the above word is what we were assigned. To take on identity and explore or assign an idea in which we could make our own- through either Expanded Media, Photography or Moving Image. I chose Expanded Media as I wanted to work on my own not only this but because I have had an idea which I wanted to explore prior to starting University- it first arose during the Summer Holidays as I skimmed through Tumblr. Let me first explain the different routes, Photography and Moving Image are pretty self explanatory but 'Expanded Media' is one that interested very few. So basically what it it is, is a mixture of both film and photography but used in opposing forms i.e. displaying photographs but in the midst having a loop of an action of the subject of the photograph or something relating to your subject. Much like attending an exhibition in art galleries but there's so much going on- yet there is such simplicity to it. As it adds just a little bit more, that's probably the best way I could explain what Expanded Media is... the combination of both Moving Image and Photography. All I'm going to say in relation to my work, is that my idea revolves around birth given names.

The red sketchbook, is the form in which I must record all ideas/ plans of chosen idea so much like maintaining a blog. So this as well as my final pieces of work must be handed in. The sketch book is apart of my final grade.

I'm going to split up these blog posts in terms of what I've been up too, because other wise it's just going to look like a long ass essay.

So you know the drill Toodles! and as always, peace & love

Another Ranting Musilmah

"Yeah yeah, here we go another Muslim pouring her heart out about how much this whole situation has affected them"

Screw your prejudice

I was going to write about how upset I was about the whole Paris, France situation that took place on 13/11/2015 I mourn for all the lives lost, for all the innocent blood that was shed that evening. For all the traumatic memories that have been implanted into the survivors of such a horrendous event. I'm sorry for all the pain you had to go through, the fear, the anxiety, the anger you must have towards those that committed such a heinous crime on you. The feeling of wanting to atone for all the deaths that took place that evening. I won't even try to exclaim that I "get it" because I don't. I don't know what it feels like to have my life flash before my eyes nor have I experienced the loss of an intermediate family member.

What I have experienced though, is the anger of a thousand suns. The outbreak of a million voices. The disgust of a generation. Not just because of what has happened in France, but because this is something that is taking place throughout the world. Palestine, Iran, Iraq, Baghdad, Pakistan, Nigeria, Syria, Sudan, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo- just to name a few. For the people of these countries and so many more, what took place in Paris, France is a regular day. Again, this is just from sources that I have read, heard and consumed... Oh no! Not from the T.V nor Newspapers don't be silly! Why on EARTH would they broadcast on National Television or place the blood shed of more than a hundred innocent lives weekly lost?

Why not BBC?
Why not ITV?
Why not Daily Mail?
Why not Evening Standard?

WHY?
WHY?
WHY?

P.S. - I'm sorry for the lack of posts, uni has taken over my life.

Unconditional Offer, what whaaat!

Soooo! From the blog title you can probably already guess what this post will be about and also one of the reason for lack of posts... In actual honesty I just haven't been bothered to write at all been taking advantage of not having to sit at the computer all the day long but atlas my brain has finally had enough and Insh'Allah the posts will be multiplying. The post today, will probably just be me discussing the course, university and what my plans are in prep for September.

So we begin! The course that I will be studying is: Contemporary Media Practice and the university (The one that I dreamed of getting into) Westminster, Harrow Campus. The unique course is designed to prepare and educate students through a number of different media outlets: interactive, moving image and photography. "Aiming to set high standards for professional achievement in specific media industry roles, and prepare you for the challenge and opportunity of a multi-skilled portfolio career." (http://www.whatuni.com/degrees/courses/Degree-details/Contemporary-Media-Practice-BA-Hons-course-details/54962230/4095/cdetail.html

First of all, the reasoning behind me doing this course, is because I am still unsure of what sector of media I want to progress into but I do know that I want to focus within the Producing sector of it. In terms of either film, t.v etc still quite unsure hence studying this course. When attending the open day I was given the impression that you are able to apply for a number of opportunities that will further your experiences within the industry so it was something that deepened my passion to study CMP. As well as this, the location is just outside of London allowing me to attend a University that is cut off of the busy lifestyle I feel like I will enjoy it. It's quite adorable with a cut off gallery and walk in studio. The University itself is split up with classrooms in one section and studios, dark rooms in another building so whenever you need to take a few snaps or develop then it's just a walk away (don't forget to book)

One of my favourite things about the campus is probably as soon as you walk in there's this really chill vibe surrounded by students and teachers literally just spread out everywhere. (Picture below) On the left side you can see the wide brown steps which when I went was covered with large pillows where students could sit and chill. I really like this section of the uni because it feels like a studio apartment to me? With the high ceilings alongside the high windows. It's great *insert crying emoji*

"welcome hall"
Another part of the University that I really liked was the 'pin wall' where you can stick up like ads, posters etc whatever I just thought it emphasised how passionate and hard working the students at this university are and I can't wait till I can get stuck in.

"the pin wall"
So in terms of preparations for University I have taken it upon myself to loose a bit of excessive fat so this means eating more healthy, and moving around more. I will not be living at University (commuting ftw) but I have been told by many of my friends who are at University that my choice is good as it's ridiculously expensive... And I'm already stressing over the debt I am going to have to pay back... Many of you are probably thinking but Lareb why didn't you just do an apprenticeship? HA! You say do one, but it's not that easy. Seriously, it's so difficult hardly anyone gets back to you it's similar to my luck of finding a job I've applied to 50 in the last two months and all have said no. Maybe it's just my face.

Other than job hunting and trying to get fit, that's all for now. I will keep you all updated, but in the mean time check out my youtube ok thank you.

Anywho, I have a lesson now... So you know the drill Toodles!

as always, peace & love

Hi

Hey guys, girls, kittens, lovers. Hey. So I've been a bit anti lately, this would simply be because College work has taken over my life. I don't mean revision nor coursework, but I simply mean doing minor aspects around College in order to not only build my own profile but also just for fun. I guess, I was in a bit of a slump since the beginning of the year confused didn't know what I wanted to do. I still don't, but I am slowly getting there?

Haha, or I like to think I am. This post will probably just be a mini catch up on everything I have been up too and what I haven't.
  1. I have heard back from all of my chosen universities- which I am exceptionally pleased about- however I do not think I will be attending Uni as I am also looking for apprenticeships on the side which I do hope I find one simply because I feel the atmosphere of a working environment will allow me to nourish as a person as well as help build my skills as an amateur film writer/ producer.
  2. My laptop broke *cries* I have no idea how, I cleared it all but then the day I start my half term it refuses to turn on- which is another reason why I haven't been as active. -sigh-
  3. I have completed my showreel, but since then have completed so many other projects which I could potentially feature within it therefore I hope to somehow make a more updated and jam packed showreel than it already is. You can watch the lame one here: showreel
  4. The number of productions that I have filmed after completing my showreel, I can't even list. Yet, today I was given all the footage that I have filmed to edit and have done by strict deadlines so that's fun. (I find it really fun, so there was no sarcasm there)
  5. I have started Arabic lessons, so I can better my pronunciation when reading my holy book the, Qur'an. Which are going really well I think, the lessons are through Skype so it gives me the freedom to work where/ when as I please. As well as that, the lessons are 30 minutes each and is as flexible for me as it is for them. (Only £15 per month) I have two lessons per week, and if you're interested you can find them here: QtvTutor
  6. I've started to cook more! Aha, I have missed cooking so this has been really fun for me. Truly, in fact I cooked Sunday night you can see it below huzzaaa!

Other than that I have just been counting down the days, I did go Singapore actually on Christmas day I came back on the 5th of January- so I will make sure to do a post on that too!

Anywho, I have a lesson now... So you know the drill Toodles!

Islamaphobia *gulps*

Hi guys! So, before you read (again) this is a bit different from some of the writings that I have done on this blog- but similar to my last post. There will probably be a few more like this, considering how swampped I have been with not only College but University as well as trying to figure out my life- sounds oh so very exciting right? No just completely and uttering tiring. However, I have warned you beforehand simirlarly like my last post this will be more formal than my other writings. Again, I was given an opportunity to write for a magazine located in Pakistan known as 'Vision Islam' (same publication) unfortunatley I was unable to get my last article "Freedom of Speech" posted due to someone not handing in my article in on time but whatever. I am still glad I took the chance to write for them, as they loved the piece and asked me to write another! (Yaaaay) and of course agaaain! I gladly took the opportunity.

Again I state: If I have caused an individual to hurt or anyone I'd like to take this opportunity to apologise now and emphasise that I meant no harm nor offense to anyone.

So here is my article on the whole 'Islamaphobia' rise that's been going on lately. Hope you enjoy, and please feel free to comment your responses/ feels towards it.

~ article time, get dem glasses ready yo ~

Why is it that the religion 'Islam' is the most rapidly growing religion yet also the most feared? Why is it that my religion, a religion that promotes peace, modesty, non-discrimination and love is constantly portrayed in a manner whereby our generation and the upcoming should fear, hate and be disgusted by not only the name but the people who practice this beautiful religion. Many are unaware of what the word 'Islam' means, just by discovering it's beautiful meaning how can you change it into something as blasphemous as 'Islamaphobia' Islam is peace- submission to god based on your own will.
"Whoever does righteousness- it is for his [own] soul; and whoever does evil [does so] against it. And your Lord is not ever unjust to [His] servants" (41:46)
The above passage is a direct link to how we as individuals are given free will, it enforces the importance of it. God, will judge us based on our actions/ choices we make in this life. Not on the destiny He has decreed for us. My personal opinion on the term 'Islamaphobia' as well as my brothers is that it is a term and "political" act which is complete and absolute rubbish. A no doubted man made word (one of their worst) applied to those who do not fear Islam, only hate. If anything, it is pure discrimination which comes in a number of disguises. Whether it be through, verbal or physical abuse as well abuse dished out through the internet. Islamaphobia, in its simplest terms means: dislike or prejudice against Islam or Muslims especially as a political force. So basically absolute and complete discrimination to those who practice Islam... What I don't understand though is how do you spot a Muslim? Yes I am aware of the basic spotting a Muslim if she is wearing a 'head veil' but what about the females who do not cover their hair? And the men? How is this 'political force' able to distinguish who a Muslim is and not by the colour of their skin? No. Through their clothing? Maybe. Through their race? Absolutely not. There are ideologies that have been created by society that all 'South Asians' are Muslims... Sigh.
On Tuesday 17th 2014 at 10AM in Colchester, Essex England. Nahid Al Manea a 31 year old PhD student from Saudi Arabia who arrived in England six months ago, was found dead on a footpath- knife wounds to her body, neck and arms. Killed for wearing abaya robe and hijab.
December 4th 2014 Abdisamad Sheikh-Hussein a 15 year old boy was intentionally run over in a hit and run that took place in Kansas City of Missouri, America. Ahmed Aden the attacker of Somalian descent and follower of Christianity who is acclaimed to have previously taunted the same community was described to have not only rammed his car in the young boy which knocked Abdisamad into the air but then also ran him over.
February 10th 2015 three young Muslims were killed straight gunshot to their heads- execution style. The reason? Because they were Muslim or as the western media like to portray the crime as 'a fight over a parking spot' this was not over a parking spot. This was not because of how loud they were on game night, this is simply in black and white terms a hate crime. A crime committed by Craig Stephen Hicks- the victims? Deah Shaddy Barakat, Yusor Mohammed Abu-Salha and Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha. Two of which sisters, Yusor and Razan as well as newly wedded couple 'Deah and Yusor' Deah, aged 23 a Syrian American of Palestinian origin and a 2013 graduate majoring in business administration, was a second-year student in UNC school of dentistry. Yusor, aged 21 a Jordanian American of Palestinian descent with a degree in biological sciences planned on studying dentistry like her husband and alongside him aiming to travel down to Turkey in order to treat Syrian refugees a project organised by UNC-Chapel Hill School of Dentistry and the Syrian- American Medical Society. Razan, the sister of Yusor aged 19 a undergraduate studying architecture and environmental design- all lost their lives on February 10th.
These are just a few examples of the many lives which have been lost due to 'Islamaphobia' and I regret to say it but are probably not the last. I fear that this is only the beginning and I await the day in which western media decides to finally expose the idea of terrorism and that it has no religion, colour or race. Anyone is capable of acts of hate, which is exactly what all the three above are. Terrorism: violence acts intended to create fear perpetrated for a religious, political or ideological goal, which deliberately target innocent civilians.
My personal opinion on why Islam is portrayed in such a belittling and negative manner and why 'Islamaphobia' is at a rise is as made reference to earlier; simply because of our media stations. That our generation is constantly spoon fed this idea that Islam is a religion of hate through "groups" such as: Al Qaeda, ISIS and even individuals such as Osama Bin Laden. I say this because, whenever I am exposed to a death of a Muslim I find that there is no coverage of the news on through national television broadcasters- yes maybe a number of newspapers but never the main outlet, the main source whereby everyone turns to for information on today: the T.V. and in the rare occasion whereby there is coverage of the event there is a distinct difference between both the committer and victim. I ask you, for example imagine the case of dear Deah, Yusor and Razan being broadcasted on number of outlets I can prescribe to you what would be written:
Three Young Students, killed over a parking spot.
V.S
Three Young Students, killed by a Muslim Terrorist in rage over their clothing.
You see the difference? You see the pathetic manner in which the media portrays Islam? That the death of three young Muslims- the case itself and the prosecutor's reasoning's was actually considered to have been due to a 'Parking Spot' squabble. When in actual fact looking more deeper into the case is a hate crime. An act of terrorism. If we were to actually think behind why Craig Stephen Hicks killed the three he would have no valid reason. The three as described by their parents are all lovers and promoters of peace, providing help for those less fortunate and educating those who know little to none. For example, a neighbor of the Barakat's had posted a highly emotional and moving status dedicated to the fellow Deah who had lost his life. Stating "You did so much to make this country a better place - not only through charity for those who had nothing, but for people like me, who might have no real concept of what Islam is have it not been for you and your family. When you first moved in I had no idea what a Muslims was - That had more to do with the fact that I was 11 (I think) than lack of exposure - But it makes me wonder now, in retrospect; What would I know or think about Muslims if the Barakats had never moved in next door? Would I know anything beyond the sound-bites and packaged narratives that get ratings and sell copy? Would I know that the Qur'an commands charity, relief and hospitality towards believer and non believer alike? I don't know if I would. Had the Barakats not moved in, I might have fallen into the trap of believing that ISIS, Al-Qaeda, or some other terroristic entity was true-to-form the Muslim voice for the fact that there might not have been anyone in my life to point it out as a hijacking of the name of Islam. In that sense, I was lucky enough to receive an education that many never did. For that, I owe you a personal debt."
This statement, perfectly embodies how this generation has created a singular identity for Islam. " Would I know anything beyond the sound-bites and packaged narratives that get ratings and sell copy?" " I might have fallen into the trap of believing that ISIS, Al-Qaeda, or some other terroristic entity was true-to-form the Muslim voice for the fact that there might not have been anyone in my life to point it out as a hijacking of the name of Islam."
I did not know Deah, Yusor or Razan, but as soon as I was aware of their deaths I felt a personal strike to my heart. Of course, they all three are my brother and sisters in Islam but at the same time I felt as though they and I had been friends for a life time once I had read up on their personalities. All I ask is that Allah make it easy on both families and that they are all granted the highest of platforms within Jannat til firdose.
When will my people as well as others stop being victimized? When will it all stop? Allah knows best. These are all tests, and Insha'Allah we all benefit from all these trials. Ameen.

Freedom of Speech?

Hi guys! So, before you read, this is a bit different from some of the writings that I have done on this blog. You have been warned, it is a bit more formal than most of my writings however I was given an opportunity to write for a magazine located in Pakistan known as 'Vision Islam' and I gladly took the opportunity. Vision Islam basically address the youth of Islam, and address upcoming and current issues across the globe and through it educate and inform the young adults of Pakistan on a weekly/ monthly bases. So here is my article on the whole 'Charlie Hebdo' situation. Hope you enjoy, and please feel free to comment your responses/ feels towards it. I'm quite proud of this piece, but if I have caused an individual to hurt or anyone I'd like to take this opportunity to apologise now and emphasise that I meant no harm nor offense to anyone... Oh and I'd also like to apologise for the lack of posts ahah I will work on it.

~ article time, get dem glasses ready yo ~

"Say (O Muhammad (saws)): I am only a man like you: it is revealed to me that your God is One God: So, let him who hopes for the meeting with his Lord, do righteousness, and not associate anything in the worship of his Lord." –
(Qur'an Al-Kahf: 111)

Charlie Hebdo, a satirical weekly magazine located in France are known across the globe for their distasteful and well quite offensive comics based on different religious leaders ranging from Christianity, Judaism and Islam. However, they are most commonly known for their on going mockery of the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W- a man loved and respected not only by muslims in general but by the general public itself. The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History is a 1978 book by Michael H. Hart, who is a well known American astrophysicist as well as an author placed the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W as number one stating "Muhammad was "supremely successful" in both the religious and secular realms." So why? Why did this magazine decide to mock one of the most influential and beloved people of our time. A man who has been influencing and inspiring a number of people from generation to generation. I guess there is no validation for the mockery of not only Islam, but also Judaism, Christianity etc.

The Prophet (saws) said:
"Do not over praise me as the Christians over praised the son of Mary (i.e. 'Isa (as). I am His slave, so say: Allah's slave and Messenger."

Following the events that took place on 7th January 2015- the act of two males known as the Kouachi Brothers, broke into the offices of Charlie Hebdo which led to the death of 8 Journalists yet there is so much more to the case than just the death of 8 Journalists a body guard as well as a Police man and a Caretaker were killed. What also took place and extended to a three-day man hunt were the deaths of a Police Woman (Montrouge shooting) and the Hyper Cacher supermarket (hostage) were four males were killed. Although the western media portrays and emphasise's the fact that these two males were in fact muslim they reflect nothing of the Islam that I was personally taught and learnt to influence throughout my life. The Qur'an, simply states "And do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness."[5:8] Therefore, although the anger they felt towards Charlie Hebdo for creating the comics was just there were under no right or authority to kill the eight themselves. For Allah, is all knowing and seeing of what the do and only he has the right to pass judgement on those who partake in falsehood.

I took to the streets of London, in order to gather reactions from the general public both muslims and non-muslims in order to gather a more general reaction to the events that took place not only on the 7th of January but with the creations of the images themselves.

"Disgusted to know, that it's a topic that is supported by so many. " – Mary, College Student 17

"Very insensitive" – Daniel, University Student 21

"Unimaginable" – Leah, Coffee Barista 18

"Not good for, the extremists to come in and shoot everyone. There is a much more peaceful manner in which they could have gone about it" – Liam, Baker 23

"I really disliked the whole concept of the comic. And I myself did not want to see the images that Hebdo created- because if I did I felt as though I was disrespecting Allah, and my prophet." – Aisha, Teacher 32

"Free speech, means there is going to be repercussions- but that doesn't mean that there should be bullets though"
– George. I.T Technician 27

"It's a breach of freedom of speech- especially when you are offending a whole religion in which you are physically giving a Holy Prophet a face where he has stated himself that he did not want to leave any imagery of himself behind." – Rochelle, Hairdresser 21

"In terms of the cartoon. There is freedom of speech, but what is the limit of freedom of speech? What is the line between freedom of speech and hate speech. How far can you take freedom of speech, I think that is the question."
 – Bryan, Student 16

"I think it's a really interesting balancing act, between defending people and freedom of speech. I think freedom of speech is not a universal thing. I think the Charlie Hebdo magazine is actually interesting because although it attacks other Religious figures it has focused on Islam quite a lot over the years. And there is a bit of French Culture, which is very Anti-Islam. At the end of the day I could never say 'Je Suis Charlie' because I do not agree on anything that they stand for. But on the other hand, nothing any person does in terms of sharing an idea should be killed." – Samantha, Blogger 19

Since the release of the comics there has been an outcry by hundreds of muslims all the way to Niger, Russia, Algeria, Malaysia, Philippines, Pakistan and many more. And rightly so, why should we stay silent when our beloved prophet has been mocked and ridiculed for so long? Isn't it about time that we took a stand and expressing how we feel? I agree to a certain extent, so far that no one is harmed during the process and that everyone is willing and able to partake.

So I ask you, think before you judge anyone and no that does not just mean those within power but each and every single person you encounter. Whether it be a classmate, a teacher, a celebrity. Before you presume or spread, and create such vile ideologies think of how you would feel if it was flipped and done to you... Not so nice is it? Our generation has turned into a group of individuals who receive information from one source and are quick to assume. Where has the patience and the thirst to educate ourselves more on a topic disappeared to? Now I end this lightly and on a positive note, and who better to end with rather than a quote from the beloved himself. Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him - "The loss of running after an affair without learning about it is more than its benefit."

4/11/2014

I turned 19 on the 4th of November this year (this post is way overdue I know) but I thought I'd let you know what happened/ took place...

So for all my birthdays I never do anything special nor do I receive anything "breathe taking" however this year was completely different in both my receiving end and the way I felt. Usually my birthdays just feel like any other day nothing special- yet due to many changes in my life- how I feel about people/ family/ religion I felt truly grateful for being alive. For being given another year (alhamdulillah) and lets not forget the fact that I am now studying subjects which I completely adore- and I can not remember a time in my life where I have been as happy as I am now- as soon as the clocks struck midnight, my little sister began screaming with excitement (watch below) and my father walked through the door with a last minute birthday present (krispe kreme doughnuts)- now you're probably thinking what? Doughnuts. That's all you got for your from your parents on your 19th? I tell you; yes. Yes it is, and it is enough. Why? Because I do not need my parents to splash out an incredulous amount of money on me to congratulate myself on living another year. Honestly, I was happy that they had got me cards. But yes, the moment I had read the cards I just burst into tears (happy tears) because I felt well and truly blessed. I was surrounded by the people I loved the most and they were happy that I was happy- and that's all that matters.

So obviously, my birthday was on a college day... and I ended up being late on my birthday (haha no surprises) so I go in and have my double morning period in which that consisted of a horrible double lesson of the infamous teacher who shall not be named with his monotone voice. Anyhow, after my double period I had a two hour break which I spent doing coursework- and was then surprised by a friend of mine with Carrot Cake and bread sticks- (bread sticks because I had brought in homous but with cucumber but no bread sticks) then at break one of my friends got me an old fashioned camera (which again you can see below) the tears that began running down my face from shock and happiness I cannot begin to explain. I've never been given a present as grand and gorgeous as this, and honestly I couldn't fathom nor accept the present it was too much.

I then went home, and shared the carrot cake with my family- which they all loved! Well that's all for now, write you next time.
